Low Self-Esteem

low-self-esteem-innerSelf-esteem is a person’s measure of their own sense of self-worth. Self-esteem tends to vary across one’s lifespan, with some periods being experienced as more difficult than others. Low levels of self-esteem are a risk factor for sadness and depression. Low self-esteem may involve hypersensitivity to criticism and critique from others, high levels of negative self-judgments including thoughts such as “I never do anything right” and “Nothing is ever going to change,” beliefs that life will not improve in the future, and/or excessive guilt and shame.
